Opportunities for Community Involvement
With Texas AgriLife Extension Service, you can help make your community and our state a better place to live.
What is your vision for the future of Texas? Healthy cities, comfortable communities, decent wages, strong economy, adequate housing and health care, clean water and air, skilled workers and profitable businesses, good community leaders, strong families, and responsible, caring kids?
These good things do not just happen. It takes people like you, coming together to look closely at your community and to plan for the future. It takes people working together to make your vision a reality.
How can I help my community by volunteering with Extension?
- Volunteer in an Extension education program
- Join your county’s Extension planning committee, known as the Leadership Advisory Board. These groups work on the county level to help guide Extension programming and ensure that Extension programs are relevant. Leadership Advisory Board members are also Extension advocates, interpreting the value of Extension to others.
- Volunteers also have the opportunity to serve on Program Area Committees. The volunteer groups assist the County Extension Agent in planning, marketing, implementing and evaluating Extension programs in the areas of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences, 4-H and Youth Development and Community Development. Working with volunteers through Program Area Committees strengthens the effectiveness and impact the programs have on the community.
