Overview

Knowing how children develop is essential in meeting each child's needs. Course Information Knowing how children develop is essential in meeting each child's needs. Definitions of multiple terms around development and developmental stages are presented. Ways to recognize developmental differences and uniqueness among typically developing children, and ways to consider if a child's development is atypical are discussed. Factors that influence development and ways to work in partnership with families are also identified. Why play is the optimal mode for learning and supporting children's development and strategies to plan play experiences are explained. Finally, the types of assessment methods and tools and appropriate purposes for which each can be used to obtain valid information are examined. Funding for this 4-hour training course was provided by the Workforce Solutions as part of their Early Care and Education Quality Improvement initiative.
