Course Information
Daily care routines such as diapering, toilet learning, and handwashing can help promote attachment, self-regulation, positive self-esteem, and autonomy.
This 2-hour online course explores regulations and best practices related to diapering, toilet learning, and handwashing, and suggests ideas for modifying these routines to meet the needs of infants or toddlers with disabilities.
Course Objectives
After completing this course, you should be able to:
- Follow diaper-changing procedures consistent with state regulations and best practices, incorporating modifications as needed to meet the needs of a child with a disability.
- Assess whether a child is ready to begin the toilet learning process.
- Foster toilet learning using strategies which comply with regulatory requirements and best practices, taking into account the special needs of a child with a disability.
- Comply with regulations and best practice recommendations for handwashing, for both adults and children, including modifications for a child with a disability where appropriate.
This training course was developed and produced by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of the Texas A&M University System in cooperation with the Texas Health and Human Services, Child Care Licensing Division, and using funds provided by the Texas Workforce Commission.
