Overview
Endocrinopathic laminitis (EL) occurs when high levels of insulin cause the laminae in the hoof to become inflamed and painful. Hyperinsulinema, a component of insulin dysregulation, has been shown to be the root cause for the development of EL. This factsheet discusses the identification of horses at risk of developing hyperinsulinema and management of the condition.
