Social emotional development begins at birth and continues throughout life, providing a foundation for meaningful relationships and learning.
Introduction to Infant and Toddler Social Emotional Development is an online course designed to introduce early childhood providers to the process of infant and toddler social emotional development, including key concepts such as attachment, self-awareness, self-regulation, temperament, and relationships with others, which affect a young child's ability to develop strong social and emotional skills.
The course includes an emphasis on the importance of healthy relationships with caregivers for optimal social emotional development to occur.
This 2-hour online course is designed to help caregivers:
- Define social emotional development;
- Explain the role that relationships play in facilitating social emotional development in infants and toddlers;
- Identify important developmental concepts, such as attachment, self-regulation, self-awareness, relationships with others, and temperament, that impact infant and toddler social emotional development;
- Examine how the environment can be used to support social emotional development;
- Identify key social emotional milestones during the infant and toddler stages; and
- Describe the unique importance of families to the social emotional development of infants and toddlers.
This training course was developed and produced by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of the Texas A&M University System in cooperation with the Texas Health and Human Services, Child Care Licensing Division, and using funds provided by the Texas Workforce Commission.
