Overview

The purpose of this course is to explore what it takes to build partnerships with parents, including families of children with special needs. Participants will learn about common challenges, effective communication strategies, and ways to gain support from parents of children without disabilities.

Building partnerships with parents takes hard work and has many rewards.

The purpose of this 2-hour online course is to explore what it takes to build partnerships with families of children with and without special needs.

During the course, participants will learn about:

  • Common concerns of families who have children with disabilities;
  • Strategies for communicating effectively with families;
  • Steps to maintain confidentiality of information concerning children and families;
  • Techniques for involving families in the early childhood program; and
  • Ideas for gaining support from families with children who do not have disabilities.

This training course was developed and produced by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of the Texas A&M University System in cooperation with the Texas Health and Human Services, Child Care Licensing Division, and using funds provided by the Texas Workforce Commission.
