Course Information
This 2-hour online course offers an overview of self-help development in preschool and school-age children, and ways you can actively foster autonomy among children with and without disabilities. We will also discuss ideas for modifying self-care routines to meet the needs of children with disabilities in your early learning program.
After you complete this course, you should be able to:
- Describe typical patterns of self-help skill development;
- Use principles of research-based practice to select strategies that are likely to work for each child; and
- Implement promising strategies to promote self-help skill development and autonomy among all the children in your program, with and without disabilities.
This training course was developed and produced by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of the Texas A&M University System in cooperation with the Texas Health and Human Services, Child Care Licensing Division, and using funds provided by the Texas Workforce Commission.
