Overview
All livestock guardian dogs (LGDs) need regular grooming of their coats to remain healthy. Initially bred to be working dogs, LGDs have developed double-haired and even triple-haired coats that, in many ways, take care of themselves, while protecting the dogs from environmental allergens, predators, and the elements. This factsheet applies to all livestock guardian dog breeds except for Komondors, which have a unique curly hair coat that requires special grooming methods.
