Overview

The purpose of this course is to explore various aspects of building partnerships between early childhood professionals and parents of children with special needs. Participants will learn about different challenges, effective communication strategies, and ways to gain support from parents of children without disabilities.

Building partnerships with parents takes hard work, and it has many rewards.

The purpose of this 2-hour online course is to explore various aspects of building partnerships between early childhood professionals and parents of children with special needs.

During the course, participants will learn about:

  • the challenges that may occur when parents have a child with special needs
  • effective communication strategies that can be used to build stronger relationships with parents
  • ways parents and families can participate in child care programs
  • specific strategies for gaining support from parents of children in their programs who do not have disabilities.

This training course was developed and produced by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of the Texas A&M University System in cooperation with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, Child Care Licensing Division, and using funds provided by the Texas Workforce Commission.
