Overview

Dealing with challenging behavior is a difficult aspect of working in early care and education. This course is designed to help early childhood professionals learn more about why preschool and school-age children, with and without disabilities, might use challenging behavior, what they can do to prevent this behavior, and how to effectively respond when prevention is not enough.

Course Information

Dealing with challenging behavior is one of the most difficult aspects of working in early care and education.

This 2-hour training course is designed to help early childhood educators learn more about:

  • Different kinds of challenging behavior;
  • Reasons preschool and school-age children, with and without disabilities, might use challenging behavior;
  • The role communication plays in challenging behavior;
  • Strategies for preventing challenging behavior;
  • Science-backed techniques that can help with managing and reducing challenging behavior among children with and without disabilities; and
  • How to create and implement an effective behavior plan.

Additionally, this course will specifically address challenging behavior in preschool and school-age children with special needs, and how educators can respond appropriately and effectively.

This training course was developed and produced by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of the Texas A&M University System in cooperation with the Texas Health and Human Services, Child Care Licensing Division, and using funds provided by the Texas Workforce Commission.
