Overview

This course is designed for youth and collegiate horse judging team members, their coaches, and anyone interested in learning more about horse judging. Learning objectives include understanding the rules for each class, applying the judging guidelines to each class, and learning to articulate placings during oral reasons.

Course Information

In this course, you will learn the basics of judging halter and performance classes. Not only will the instructors teach how judges evaluate horses and the reasoning behind their judgments, but they will give you example horses for you to test what you have learned.

Among other things, participants will learn about horse judging topics including:

  • Halter horse basics and evaluation
  • Performance and junior mares and gelding classes
  • Reining basics and maneuvers
  • Western riding judging and scoring
  • Western pleasure judging and scoring
  • Trail judging and scoring
  • Western horsemanship
  • Leads and gaits

This course is directed towards youth and collegiate horse judging team members, their coaches and anyone interested in learning more about horse judging. Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand the rules for each class
  • Apply the judging guidelines to each class by judging video classes
  • Articulate placings during oral reasons

Note: Learners will have access to this course for one year from the date of enrollment.
