What You'll Learn

This online course will inform participants about riparian and watershed processes, the benefits that healthy riparian areas provide, and the tools that prevent and/or resolve degradation and improve water quality. Participants will be educated on the importance of riparian protection activities. At the conclusion of the training, participants will receive a certificate of completion.

Course Information

A major goal of the course will be to foster implementation of riparian Best Management Practices (BMPs). We emphasize the need for watershed planning to support maintenance of a natural hydrograph. Restoration of riparian areas degraded by changes to the natural hydrologic regime must be conducted in concert with efforts to remedy those upstream disturbances.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

• Describe watersheds and how their components impact water quality
• Explain how creeks function
• Identify the common riparian plants in your region
• Decipher between the stabilization ratings of common riparian plants
• Recognize the role of forests and trees in protecting watersheds from erosion and nutrients
• Manage wild pig populations that put creeks and watersheds at risk
