We offer numerous free and affordable programs on agriculture and natural resources, family and community health, economic health and youth development. We also offer many volunteer opportunities. Browse the list below.
Program

In the Natural Resources project area, youth gain knowledge and experience in a variety of outdoor topic areas such as water conservation, outdoor living skills, forestry, fishing, and more. Young Texans involved in these projects are introduced to a vast array of educational and fun opportunities to be immersed in the world around them.

The Texas 4-H Family & Community Health Program provides a variety of resources and opportunities to learn about nutrition, interior design, consumer education and more.

A Matter of Balance is a nationally recognized, evidence-based fall risk reduction program that emphasizes practical strategies to reduce fear of falling and increase activity.

Courses

Course

Four out of every 100 children have one or more food allergies, which can be life threatening. This course will equip child care providers with the latest regulations and standards related to food allergies in child care settings. Participants will learn how to manage food allergies in the day care and on field trips.

Course

Learning centers provide early childhood classrooms the perfect environment for children to actively plan, try, pretend, and make new discoveries. Effective centers help children develop through play, by themselves and with peers. The purpose and process of how to develop, build and manage a center are discussed.

Course

This course is intended for child care providers, parents, families, and other professionals that have children with special nutritional needs. It goes over what the parents of children with special medical conditions need to provide the child care providers in order for them to properly care for the children.

Step Up Scale Down

Step Up Scale Down is a 12-week wellness program based on USDA guidelines and scientific research. Each week focuses on a different topic related to nutrition, healthy eating, exercise, and more to support you in your weight loss journey.

    Experience a variety of counting activities and developmentally appropriate approaches for teaching addition and subtraction. Explore principles, objectives, and developmental stages of counting and examine ways to support children’s counting in everyday situations. Number and operations tasks for preschoolers are provided.

    Delve into various aspects of language development, how those look in the infant and toddler years, and ways to strengthen that development. You will explore the universal stages of language development. Finally, the various milestones during the first three years will be presented.

    Explore math in an early childhood setting and see how mathematical concepts develop from simple to complex. Identify five math content areas and gain strategies for integrating concepts in a way that will engage preschool children all day. Connect math concepts to literacy in a math-rich environment in the classroom.

    Develop a pathway to enhance classroom science centers by means of interactive science experiences for preschool children. Explore the scientific process and making discoveries within four different areas of science: Life Science, Health Science, Physical Science, Earth and Space, and Environmental Science.

    Circle time, or large group time, is when children come together to learn and have fun, solve problems, and be part of a community. This setting helps children begin to look at the world from the perspective of ‘we’ and ‘ours’. Circle time experiences, transitions and strategies for keeping children engaged are introduced.

    Classroom management refers to skills teachers use daily to supervise and organize time, materials and activities, while keeping children safe. From the rules and routines to the activities, each component needs to be planned and followed through with children to ensure they are learning through play throughout the day.

    There are many things one can do to help prevent foodborne illnesses from occurring, especially in children. This course is targeted towards child caregivers to discuss food safety practices in the preschool environment.

    Working in a child care setting can be such a rewarding, yet difficult job. Learn how to properly handle breast milk, formula, and other foods to help prevent food-borne illness in this course. Food safety preventative measures will be discussed to help ensure you have a safe environment for babies and children.

    Children identify a problem, use stuff to make stuff that does stuff to solve the problem. Learn about research related to engineering design with preschoolers and ideas/activities to encourage and support children in becoming junior engineers. Planning, building, and testing out are the engineering skills of the future.

  • Course

    Maintaining the health of young children – and setting them up with lifelong healthy habits – are critical elements of a quality early childhood program. This one-hour course reviews some of the key practices early childhood educators can use to promote breastfeeding and healthy feeding habits in infants. It is aligned with the guidelines of the Texas Healthy Building Blocks recognition program.
