High Plains wheat producers may be waiting until October to plant this year’s wheat crop due to heavy pressure from grasshoppers.
The heavy grasshopper populations this summer have not gone away, Dr. Ed Bynum, AgriLife Extension entomologist, said. “Grasshoppers are still here, and they will be here until we have a good hard freeze, so it could be late October,” he said.
