This phenomenon (Oedema) happens when the soil is moist and warm. Plants take up the water but the air is cool/cold with high relative humidity. The stoma closes so the plant does not lose water, resulting in it’s cells to bloat and eventually pop. As the broken cells heal they tend to have corky and raised appearances.
