Learn how to identify different types of indoor flies, understand their biology and, most importantly, learn how to get rid of flies in your house. “Indoor flies are opportunists and control is most effective when breeding sites within a structure are identified and eliminated,” said Dr. Mike Merchant, AgriLife Extension entomologist in Dallas.
Common fly breeding hotspots include:
- Trash receptacles
- Vegetable bags
- Overripe fruits
- Vegetable debris
- Open vinegar, wine, beer, or cider containers
- Damp cleaning supplies (mops, brooms, cleaning rags, etc.)
- Kitchen floor crevices
- Floor drains
- Fermenting organic matter
