The 2018 Texas A&M AgriLife Angora Goat Performance Test is set to begin with delivery of the bucks on Dec. 6 to the Texas A&M AgriLife Research Station at Sonora.
“This testing program is meant to identify superior Angora bucks that can thrive in a range environment and produce a high-value fleece,” said Dr. Reid Redden, sheep and goat specialist at San Angelo and the test’s coordinator.
The test schedule dates are:
- Dec. 6, delivery and initial weighing of the animals.
- Feb. 20, initial shearing.
- May 1, second weighing.
- July 17, final weighing and shearing, completing the 147-day test.
A deposit of $100 per buck at the start of the test will be collected when animals are delivered to the station, Redden said. “The fee covers the shearing, fiber analysis, pasturage, labor, feed, ear tags and miscellaneous supplies,” he said.
