The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will present its Backyard Basics Expo Aug. 3 in San Antonio.
The expo will be from 8:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. at the San Antonio Garden Center, 3310 N. New Braunfels Ave.
“The 2018 Backyard Basics Expo will feature concurrent educational sessions covering topics such as backyard chickens, making jerky, identifying cuts of beef, growing fruit trees, drip irrigation and water conservation, and vegetable and pollinator gardening,” said Molly Keck, AgriLife Extension entomologist for Bexar County and expo coordinator. “There will also be sessions on growing salsa ingredients and making salsa, beekeeping and composting. Many of these sessions will repeat so attendees won’t miss anything.”
David Rodriguez, AgriLife Extension horticulturist and event co-coordinator, said children are welcome at the expo sessions and each concurrent session will have a child-friendly option.
“There will be a lot of hands-on sessions and there will be a lot of information and take-home material,” he said.
The cost for the expo is $20 for adults and children 11 years and older until Aug. 1, then $25 after. Children 10 and under are free. Admission to the San Antonio Botanical Garden is not included.
