Situated between the Hill Country and South Texas Plains, Uvalde County is a vital hub for Texas agriculture. As part of the Winter Garden region, it excels in producing cotton, corn, grain sorghum, wheat, hay, cabbage, and onions. The region’s long growing season and fertile soils make it ideal for diverse specialty crops.

Water resources are a key advantage here. The Nueces and Frio rivers, along with the Edwards and Carrizo-Wilcox Aquifers, support both dryland farming and advanced irrigation systems, allowing producers to maintain yields even in dry seasons. Many growers use drip and pivot irrigation for water efficiency and crop quality.

Livestock thrives here too, with strong beef cattle operations and traditional sheep and goat ranching. Producers benefit from research at the Texas A&M AgriLife Center in Uvalde, focusing on crop innovation and sustainable practices.

Uvalde County 4-H

Uvalde County 4-H is a vibrant youth development organization with over 250 active members. It offers a wide range of engaging projects for kids, including animal science, STEM, robotics, shooting sports, photography, public speaking, and community service. Through hands-on learning and leadership opportunities, Uvalde County 4-H helps youth grow, explore their interests, and make a positive impact in their communities.

Online Enrollment is NOW OPEN!

Youth members are required to pay a $25.00 participation fee if enrolled by October 31st, and a $30.00 fee from November 1st to the completion of the 4-H year.
Clover kids (grades K-2) now available in Uvalde County! Members will be required to pay a $10.00 participation fee.
Adults pay a $10.00 volunteer applicant fee.
