Animal Evacuation Shelters
For information on facilities by county that are available to house pets, horses or livestock, call the Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) at 800-550-8242 or go to www.tahc.state.tx.us.
Animal Rescue
To look for lost and found pets, to sign up as a foster home or to volunteer, register at www.petfinder.com.
To report a lost pet or one needing rescue, call 800-HUMANE1. To locate foster homes for pets, call 800-485-5152.
The Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) team has authorization to rescue animals in Hardin, Orange, Harris, Jefferson, Galveston, Brazoria and Liberty counties. The team can be reached 713-869-7722.
The Texas Animal Control Association (TACA) animal rescue teams can be reached at 936-366-0128.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, which issues permits to wildlife rehabilitators to care for wildlife, can be reached at 800-792-1112. Wildlife rehabilitators are listed by county at www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/wild/rehab.
Livestock Hay and Grazing Provisions
The Hay and Grazing hotline of the Texas Department of Agriculture can help producers locate hay for sale and pastures for lease. Call 877-429- 1998, or go to www.agr.state.tx.us and check the “Links/Resources” section.
Livestock and Poultry Carcass Disposal
For information or guidance on building a carcass composting pile, contact the Texas AgriLife Extension Service at 806-677-5600 or 979-845- 3931. You can also go to http://agrilifebookstore.org.
For complete Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) rules and publications on disposal of carcasses, go to www.tceq.state. tx.us or call 512-239-1000. The TCEQ has regulatory authority for carcass disposal.
Livestock Strays
To record animal brands, ear tags and descriptions, contact the county clerk’s office, Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) at 817-332-7064 or www.texascattle raisers.org. You can also contact the Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) at 800-550-8242 or www.tahc.state.tx.us.
Livestock, Poultry and Farm Loss Claims
Document and report all livestock and poultry losses immediately to the county Farm Service Agency (FSA). Contact information for county offices can obtained from the Texas FSA at 979- 680-5151 or www.fsa.usda.gov/tx.
Document and report all farm property losses to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) at 800-621-3362 or www.fema.gov.
