
In a novel approach to consumer education about beef products, the Beef Boot Camp for Retailers team began training meat market managers in 2011, starting with the Southwest Division of Kroger Company. Since then, the team has taught more than 300 managers in a 2-day program that provides an overview of the beef industry, virtual facility tours, and live demonstrations. Even experienced managers gained greater knowledge and a stronger commitment to training their retail staff. The beef boot camp provided objective information regarding the safety, processing, types, and nutrient content of beef products to educate managers, workers, and ultimately consumers. This education experience is supported by Beef Checkoff funding and Beef product suppliers.
