Since 1993, the Kids & Kows & More program provides 40-50 Agricultural Literacy programs for 3rd and 4th grade students each year located across Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma.
Kids & Kows & More is one of the best visual, classroom enrichment field trips and close up learning experiences for students to learn about their local food and fiber commodities. The goal is to help students and adults learn, understand and appreciate where their food/fiber comes from, not just that they purchase them at the store. Students learn in a highly visual and technological way, how the items are produced and how they arrive at the store for our consumption. Approximately 1,000 students are seen per day with at least 500 being the daily goal.
Groups rotate every 15 – 20 minutes among educational Ag Literacy subjects such as: Mobile Dairy, Vegetables, Cotton, Pecans, Water, Livestock, Citrus and Beef. During the presentation the kids are treated to low fat, white or chocolate milk.
Teachers say, “Wow, this really helps make sense of the information that we are trying to get kids to understand. They can see it for real, and it makes for clear understanding and comprehension. Our students improved on all the tests!”
Principals say, “Hey, we don’t need to get back to school as early as we had planned. This is terrific; I see great progress in the educational aspects that spells for student success. Even the teachers are gaining knowledge that will enhance educational learning for students.”
