Overview

Do you want to continue your professional career in wastewater management? This online wastewater course is the first in a series developed to address challenges facing the onsite wastewater industry in Texas.

Course Information

This online course gives you the knowledge to enhance your career while earning CEUs through the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. After completing this course, you will have a strong knowledge of Decentralized High-Strength Wastewater Systems.

This course series is developed to address one of the challenges facing the onsite wastewater industry in Texas: wastewater treatment systems that are being organically and/or hydraulically overloaded. The entire 16-hour course series is divided into four modules, each module covering unique topics. Upon completion of all four modules, you will be able to better understand the complexity of designing and operating a high-strength onsite wastewater treatment system.

Who is this for?

  • Professional License Holders (Professionals)

What will you learn?

  • Define high-strength wastewater and its impact on system design and operation
  • Identify hydraulic and organic characteristics from a variety of wastewater sources
  • Recognize the importance of organic and hydraulic loading in designing a high-strength wastewater system
  • Summarize TCEQ Regulations 285 and 217 relating to high-strength wastewater system design
  • Troubleshoot failing system used for managing wastewater from various types of commercial facilities

NOTE: This course is one of a four-part series. Don't miss the companion courses:

You can purchase all four courses at a discount in the bundle, Analyzing Wastewater Systems for High Strength and Hydraulic Loading - Bundle.

Course Outline

Lesson 1: Onsite/Decentralized High-Strength Wastewater Treatment Systems Overview

Learn why onsite wastewater treatment systems are a permanent solution and why understanding hydraulic and organic loading to onsite systems and the components of onsite systems is necessary.

Lesson 2: Wastewater Terms & Treatment

Explore the wastewater constituents and the different treatment processes.

Lessons 3: What is High-Strength Wastewater and Examples of High-Strength Systems

Begin thinking 'out of the box' when evaluating system malfunctions due to high-strength waste to derive a solution unique and specific to the system.

Lesson 4: Common Causes of High-Strength System Malfunctions,

Understand common causes of system malfunction so that they can be properly managed.

Lesson 5: Regulatory Guidance for High-Strength System Designs

Review TCEQ Regulations 285 and 217 and identify the difference between 'Prescription and Performance Based Regulations'.

An aerobic septic system, or aerobic treatment unit (ATU), uses oxygen to breakdown both dissolved and solid constituents into gases, cell mass, and non-degradable material contained in wastewater. This online course will teach you how to properly maintain and operate your ATU. You will have 30 days from the day you register to complete this program. If you do not complete the program within this limit, your registration will expire, and you will need to pay the registration fees again to start over.

The Texas Watershed Steward (TWS) online program is a statewide educational program designed to improve the quality of Texas’ water resources by educating and informing local stakeholders about their watershed, potential impairments, and steps that can be taken to help improve and protect water quality in their watershed.

  • Course

This 1-hour course exposes learners to information regarding The Texas Watershed Steward (TWS) Program. Students will learn about the importance of water, the role of watersheds in the water cycle, and much more. Students have the option of obtaining school credit for this course.
