Legislative Appropriations Requests
FY26-27 LEGISLATIVE APPROPRIATIONS REQUESTS
Keeping Texas Prepared: The Extension Agent Network
The objective of this legislative appropriations request is to invest in increased personnel to address the educational programming demands of population growth in Texas. Through the combined strength of our Disaster Assessment & Recovery (DAR) Unit and the Extension Agent Network, our agency operates as a conduit of information and a force multiplier to counties and communities in times of crises. We seek to maintain effective educational and emergency response for our statewide network, enabling:
- Programs, tools and resources that teach people how to improve agriculture and food production, advance health practices, protect the environment, strengthen the economy and enrich youth.
- Support for statewide emergency and disaster response through readiness, response and recovery.
- Response to explosive population growth and increasing demand for services and educational programming.
Rural Student Success Initiative
The objective of this legislative appropriations request is to leverage the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service’s place-based network of county agents to provide rural school districts, students and their families with the information, tools, and strategies essential to improving postsecondary access, matriculation, and completion outcomes in underserved rural communities in Texas. This request would continue and expand programming and bring new rural school districts into its current network.
