Overview

Do you want to continue your professional career in wastewater management? This online wastewater course is the fourth in a series developed to address challenges facing the onsite wastewater industry in Texas.

Course Information

This online course gives you the knowledge to enhance your career while earning CEUs through the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. After completing this course, you will have a strong knowledge of Troubleshooting and Microscopic Evaluation.

This course series is developed to address one of the challenges facing the onsite wastewater industry in Texas: wastewater treatment systems that are being organically and/or hydraulically overloaded. The entire 16-hour course series is divided into four modules, each module covering unique topics. Upon completion of all four modules, you will be able to better understand the complexity of designing and operating a high-strength onsite wastewater treatment system.

Who is this for?

  • Professional License Holders (Professionals)

What will you learn?

  • Understand how to evaluate waste sources using checklists for residential and commercial systems
  • Gain confidence in system monitoring, sampling, and sample analysis
  • Learn about the use of a microscope and how to conduct a microscopic evaluation of an aerobic treatment system
  • Better understanding of how to evaluate and manage a malfunctioning commercial system
  • Get to know about a few real-world examples of commercial systems

NOTE: This course is one of a four-part series. Don't miss the companion courses:

You can purchase all four courses at a discount in the bundle, Analyzing Wastewater Systems for High Strength and Hydraulic Loading - Bundle.

Course Outline

Lesson 1: Evaluating Waste Sources - Residential and Commercial Check Lists

Use a survey to identify key parameters for selecting an appropriate treatment train and to identify waste stream characteristics from a source. Learning the ability to evaluate information collected through a residential evaluation survey to troubleshoot a system and evaluate kitchen management practices and their impact on wastewater characteristics.

Lesson 2: Sampling, Monitoring, and Sample Analysis

Understand the purpose of wastewater sampling, discuss sample documentation, and identify proper sample collection and handling procedures.

Lesson 3: Microscopic Evaluation and Trouble Shooting Using Microscope

Learn how to use a microscope, recognize and determine what you see, general wastewater microbiology concepts, and diagnose system performance.

Lessons 4 & 5: High-Strength Wastewater Malfunctions and Management and Real-World Examples

Begin thinking "out of the box" when evaluating system malfunctions due to high-strength waste to derive a solution unique and specific to the system and understand common causes of system malfunction so that they can be properly managed.

This course aims to help beef cattle producers protect Texas waterways from contamination that is linked with the production of livestock. These contaminations may also pose a health risk to Texas citizens.

  • Course

This course will inform participants about riparian and watershed processes, the benefits that healthy riparian areas provide, and the tools that prevent and/or resolve degradation and improve water quality.

  • Course

An aerobic septic system, or aerobic treatment unit (ATU), uses oxygen to breakdown both dissolved and solid constituents into gases, cell mass, and non-degradable material contained in wastewater. This online course will teach you how to properly maintain and operate your ATU. You will have 30 days from the day you register to complete this program. If you do not complete the program within this limit, your registration will expire, and you will need to pay the registration fees again to start over.
