Overview

The Farm Safety program is designed to increase agriculture producer's awareness of the availability and benefits of farm safety programs and resources.

Course Information

The Farm Safety program is a hybrid program that provides online learning as well as in-person training to agriculture producers with or without disabilities to improve their farm safety knowledge and skills to enable them to select, operate, and maintain common agriculture equipment, implements, and tools safely. Upon completion of this course, BattleGround to Breaking Ground graduates will be certified in safe handling and operation practices for equipment in the BattleGround to Breaking Ground Equipment Loan Program.

Course Outline

Module 1: Introduction to Farm Safety & Health

Working in agriculture is different from working in other industries and many of these variations increase your chances of being injured.

Module 2: Farm Safety - A Look at Agricultural Hazards and Risk

Learn how to identify the hazards and risks associated with working with chemicals and machinery in agriculture.

Module 3: Agricultural Health and Wellbeing

Because of its unique challenges, agriculture can impact health and wellbeing. Factors beyond the producer's control often have a negative effect on health and wellbeing.

Module 4: Tractor, Machinery, and Equipment

The material in Module 4 is based upon work from the Penn State Extension for the National Safe Tractor and Machinery Operation Program originally supported by the National Institute of Food and Agriculture, U.S. Department of Agriculture, under Agreement numbers 2001-41521-01263 and 2010-41521-20839.
