Overview
Sooty mold is a coating of dark brown to black fungal growth that makes plants look like they are covered with soot, hence the name. The fungus grows in honeydew, a substance that sap-sucking insects excrete as they feed on the sap from plants. This publication discusses how sooty mold affects roses, its symptoms, what causes it, and how to manage it. (2 pages)
