Today, Bowie County has a population of approximately 92,000 people, fifty percent of that population lives in Texarkana. Other towns in the county include: New Boston, DeKalb, Simms, Leary, Hooks, Nash, and Wake Village. Bowie County is diverse, ranging from a suburban lifestyle to a very rural way of life.

In the early 1800’s, Caddo Indians inhabited this area when white men first came to explore and settle. The Caddo were a non-nomadic tribe, living in conical, grass thatched huts. They raised corn, beans, squash, sunflowers and tobacco.

Bowie County has changed over the years, as have the needs of its residents. To address those needs, the staff of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of Bowie County offers a wide variety of educational programs and informational literature. Programs are offered in traditional agriculture, 4-H youth development, horticulture and family and community health.
