Course Information
The purpose of this 2-hour online course is to learn strategies to promote a positive social climate and successful social interactions for preschool and school-age children, including children with disabilities.
During this training, we will talk about the benefits of positive peer and adult-child interactions, looking specifically at steps you can take to teach and facilitate the skills children need to develop healthy relationships.
After you complete this course, you should be able to:
- Identify the benefits of promoting positive peer interactions among preschoolers and school-aged children in your early childhood program;
- Describe positive social interactions as they might appear in an early learning setting;
- Arrange the learning environment to encourage positive interactions among children and between children and adults; and
- Implement various strategies to teach preschoolers and school-aged children with and without disabilities the social skills required for developing friendships with their peers.
This training course was developed and produced by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of the Texas A&M University System in cooperation with the Texas Health and Human Services, Child Care Licensing Division, and using funds provided by the Texas Workforce Commission.
