This course is a part of the larger Owning Your Piece of Texas course. It is for Texas landowners and focuses on oil and gas law, which is undoubtedly big business in Texas.

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

• Distinguish between substances that belong to the mineral estate and surface estate
• Recall the rights held by a mineral owner
• Determine if a person owns any mineral interest
• Explain the rights and obligations of mineral co-tenants
• Recognize the scope and requirements of the accommodation doctrine
• Describe potential methods to protect the surface estate
• Identify key terms in oil and gas leases
