This publication provides science-based information on the history and distribution of wild pigs (Sus scrofa) in the US and how these animals negatively impact water quality.

This publication explains how factors including the reproductive capacity, ecology and habitat requirements of wild pigs compound their damages to riparian ecosystems and surface water systems. Also discussed are other contributors to bacterial impairments and the use of methods such as bacterial source tracking (BST) to identify the relative scale to which wild pigs deposit E. coli bacteria to water sources.
