Overview
Avocado trees are grown in protected home landscapes in the lower half of the state. The only Texas counties that are suitable for commercial avocado production are in the Lower Rio Grande Valley. This publication explains how and where to grow avocados in Texas, including recommended varieties, soils, sites, propagation, planting, freeze protection measures, irrigation, fertilization, pruning and training, and harvesting. Also discussed is the control of diseases, insects, weeds, and other pests.
