Overview

Ethics, values, and vision are the foundation of who we are. As early childhood professionals, we must understand and evaluate our values and their impact on our decision-making process. Being mindful of how our beliefs and biases impact our approach to teaching and building relationships is how we successfully build relationships with children, families, and colleagues. After completing this 4-hour course, the learner will be able to describe what ethics and values are, explain how these affect the early childhood profession, create a teaching philosophy that portrays your vision and teaching practices based upon these beliefs, and explain personal bias and its impact on the learning environment and teaching.

Course Information

Ethics, values, and vision are the foundation of who we are. As early childhood professionals, we must understand and evaluate our values and their impact on our decision-making process. Being mindful of how our beliefs and biases impact our approach to teaching and building relationships is how we successfully build relationships with children, families, and colleagues.

After completing this 4-hour course, the learner will be able to describe what ethics and values are, explain how these affect the early childhood profession, create a teaching philosophy that portrays your vision and teaching practices based upon these beliefs, and explain personal bias and its impact on the learning environment and teaching.

After completing this training, participants should be able to:

  • Define ethics and the importance of ethical decision-making in your professional role;
  • Identify ways to support children and families in ethical ways;
  • Describe how values support your professional growth;
  • Discuss the foundation of personal and professional values;
  • Articulate your vision for fostering children's growth and development, including how to support individual children's learning and the goals of families; and
  • Explain professional passion and examine ways to grow your professional passion, instilling those elements into your daily work.

The development of this online course was 100% funded by federal Child Care and Development Funds from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, as part of an $8,000,000 grant from the Texas Workforce Commission.
