Course Information
Starting a new home-based child care business involves making a number of decisions, including the type of home-based child care to operate and how to incorporate best practices.
This 3-hour course for prospective home-based child care business owners will introduce the types of home-based child care, Minimum Standards, best business practices, and other critical components for operating a successful business.
After completing this course, the learner will be able to:
- Describe the three types of home-based child care operations recognized by Texas Health and Human Services, including Listed Family Homes, Registered Child Care Homes, and Licensed Child Care Homes;
- Understand licensing requirements, Minimum Standards, and inspections for each type of home-based child care; the risks of operating an unregulated child care home; and the supports available to transition from an unregulated operation to one of the regulated operation types; and
- Understand best practices for operating a home-based child care business, including business operations, bookkeeping, and marketing.
The development of this online course was 100% funded by federal Child Care and Development Funds from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, as part of an $8,000,000 grant from the Texas Workforce Commission.
