Course Information
Infants' experiences early in life literally influence the physical structures of the brain, opening the way for patterns of thought and behavior for the rest of a child's life.
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, or SIDS, is the leading cause of death in babies between the ages of 1 month and 1 year.
Abusive Head Trauma: Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS) is the group of signs and symptoms experienced by very young children who are shaken. In 25% of diagnosed SBS cases, the victim's injuries will prove fatal. SBS is completely preventable.
This 1-hour training course addresses each of these critical topics related to caring for the youngest and most vulnerable population of children, infants and toddlers. Child care providers will learn how to optimize development and minimize risk to the children in their care.
This online course was developed and produced by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of the Texas A&M University System in cooperation with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, Child Care Licensing Division, and using funds provided under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
