Mason County is located on the Edwards Plateau in the western Texas Hill Country region. This rural county consists of 932 square miles that are home to roughly 4,000 residents. Mason, named for Fort Mason, is the largest town and the county seat. Having no major industries other than agriculture, hunting and tourism, most residents embrace quiet country living and are tied to agriculture in some manner.

The Mason County Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR) AgriLife Extension agent partners with Texas A&M University AgriLife specialists and local entities to offer educational programs in rangeland, livestock, and wildlife management to address current issues and best stewardship practices. Educational resource materials as well as individual advice for current and new landowners are available through the Mason County AgriLife Extension Office. The goal is to help all preserve the future of Mason County agriculture through education, innovative practices, and science-based solutions.

Additionally, a major objective of any society is developing young people into mature, productive, contributing citizens. The Mason County 4-H program strives to build these qualities in the youth of Mason County, many of whom are fourth generation 4-H’ers engaged in livestock projects and related activities. In a tradition of the pursuit of excellence, Mason 4-H members participate in local, district, state and national events and bring home top honors.
